Superintendent's Letter - 2020/2021 School Calendar Update

May 22, 2020

TISD Parents/Guardians,

The last several months have certainly been a challenge for our students, staff, parents and community. As the 2019-2020 school year comes to an abnormal close, I want to thank everyone for their hard work, patience and perseverance. Since spring break, the students, faculty and staff of Tulia ISD have demonstrated a lot of courage and strength as they adapted to a different learning environment.
As we plan for the start of the 2020-2021 school year, we should all be prepared to encounter further disruptions caused by COVID-19. At this time, TISD is planning to follow the school calendar developed by our District Committee and adopted by the Board of Trustees back in February. This is subject to change based on any new guidance we receive from the State. Even with our traditional calendar in place next year, we must all be prepared for the potential of short and long term closures. TISD has scheduled 173 days of classroom instruction next year, so any make-up days will have to occur during the bad weather make-up dates, scheduled breaks or with an extension of the school year into June.
Along with the potential for disruptions to the school calendar, everyone should expect to experience a variety of learning opportunities next year. This includes traditional classroom instruction, remote/online learning or a combination of both. Although COVID-19 has altered the delivery of instruction, the faculty and staff in TISD will meet the challenges and exceed expectations.
Finally, the health and safety of our students and staff is a top priority. In the fight against COVID-19, TISD will expand the deep cleaning and sanitizing schedules, implement screenings, hand washing/social distancing practices and increase the availability of hand sanitizer and masks. The district is also researching new technologies such as UV sanitizers, temperature screening equipment and air purifiers.
I encourage everyone to stay safe throughout the summer months and watch for any changes or announcements about next school year. TISD will post updates and information on Facebook and the district website.
Stay Safe,
Tim Glover
Superintendent, Tulia ISD
