Hornets and Lady Hornet Qualify for Regional Cross Country Meet

On Monday, October 21st, the Hornet and Lady Hornet Cross Country runners competed in their district meet at the Mae Simmons Park course in Lubbock.  The Hornets were led by Carlos Subealdea, who has proven to be Tulia’s front runner all season long.  Carlos ran his fastest time of his career on the rugged, hill course.  Carlos placed 3rd, with a time of 18:14; followed by Edgar Martinez, who missed qualifying for regionals his freshman year by one place.  Edgar ran a personal best of 18:57, placing him as the 10th and final qualifier for the regional meet.  Justin Brown, freshman, finished a disappointing 13th, missing the regional meet by three places.

Senior Maritza Hernandez, the only varsity girl competing in the district meet, ran her personal best as well.  She placed 5th, with a time of 13:45.  She has missed the past two meets due to a strained IT band.  So, for her to come out and run in the top 5 was a tremendous accomplishment.  She was determined after missing regionals for the first time in her high school career as a junior last year.

The Hornets and Lady Hornet will be back in action at the Regional Meet on November 2nd, back at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.  Maritza will run at 10:00 a.m., followed by Carlos and Edgar at 10:30.  Hope to see you there.
